While building a makeshift studio in the basement of his parents’ home proved Shade Jenifer to be a determined and dedicated prospect, it was his talent and a little bit of luck that ultimately pushed him into the hands of the fastest rising label in the DMV.
A willing successor to a musical household that sacrificed fame and celebrity for familial bliss, the 18-year-old teen heartthrob is the newest artist signed to DJ Young Music’s DYMG Entertainment record label – and with good reason. Artistic in every sense of the word, Shade plays the piano, saxophone, drums, produces his own music and bares the agility of a world class gymnast.
Fiercely reminiscent of Chris Brown, and perhaps a young Michael Jackson for his limber interpretations of song and dance, Shade’s artistic influences were instilled in the church and at home. With two Musical Directors for parents, he used their guidance to pull inspiration from gospel standouts such as Tonex, J. Moss and Take 6.
Over time, Shade forged a following by singing over popular tracks and ultimately developed a sound all his own. Further molded by numerous talent shows, a performance at the Kennedy Center, Washington DC and a myriad more regional opportunities, his break came soon after high school graduation.
Prompted by friends in August to join an interactive talent search conducted by WPGC 95.5 mixshow personality DJ Young Music on Twitter, SHADE’s chance of a lifetime was unearthed on social media, as the Streetz Representer arranged a sit down between the two. Shortly after meeting and establishing an unquestionable chemistry in the studio, SHADE signed his dream deal – one that was a no brainer for DJ Young Music.
“What was different about him was he had an international sound,” said Young Music. “He’s different from the average, but still mainstream.”
Less than two months subsequent to becoming DYMG’s first R&B act, SHADE delighted a Philadelphia crowd, performing “Game Over” after being introduced by renowned vocalist Ginuwine. DYMG’s newest addition followed that performance up with an ode to 30,000 people at the Annual Jerome Gun Hill Bid Festival in the Bronx.
Unquestionably in good hands with DYMG Entertainment and DJ Young Music, SHADE is a long way away from the studio basement that helped shape his dogged outlook on how he would succeed in the music industry. Moreover, his ‘international sound’ from the forthcoming effort – UP NEXT – only assures that he is in it for the long run.
